SKIN CANCER

with Dr Faheem Latheef

Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers with the number of people being diagnosed with increasing every year. Excessive sun exposure and burning are closely linked to the development of skin cancers and its important that any changes on your skin or changes in moles are assessed by an expert. Dr Latheef is highly trained in the assessment of skin lesions/moles and will be able to remove any suspicious lesions for diagnosis and management. Dr Latheef is a core member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) in Leeds and does weekly skin cancer and surgery lists.

In general, skin cancer can be divided into: non-melanoma (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) and melanoma (malignant melanoma).

Malignant melanoma is the most life-threatening type of skin cancer and is one of the few cancers affecting the younger population. Sun exposure is the single most preventable risk factor for skin cancer. Dr Latheef has undergone a year of training in the Pigmented lesion clinic in Leeds and is also doing research into Melanoma and is therefore highly qualified in the assessment of moles and management of melanoma skin cancer as well as removal of moles.
